She had been sleeping for too long. Now, suddenly, a light had appeared from a crack in the cocoon. She peeped out; struggled, bit by bit to push her whole body out of its confines. It was an arduous struggle. She felt her sides were tearing. She wasn’t sure if she was pulling herself towards the light, or killing herself gradually.
After what seemed like eternity, she looked about herself. Crumpled yellow wings lay at her sides. She lifted them slowly, still reeling in the pain of her earlier struggle. She fluttered her wings. She was lifted off the ground.
She cried for joy. She could fly. Her struggles had been rewarded.
A toad spotted her. With one snap of his tongue, he gobbled her up. There were some traces of yellow around the corners of his mouth.
“Ribbit,” he burped.
